Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) is the company of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group with the public role of Infrastructure Manager. As the body responsible for the track, the stations and the installations, RFI ensures to railway undertakings the access to the railway network, performs the maintenance and the safe circulation on the whole network, manages the investments for the upgrading and improvement of railway lines and installations and it develops the technology of systems and materials.
On the international front, RFI promotes the integration of the Italian infrastructure in the European railway network, by co-ordinating with the EU Member States the quality standards, the activities and the marketing strategies of the services.
Presently, operational lines are more than 16.720 km long; more than 11.900 Kms of it are electrified and over 7.500 Kms are double track. Stations and stops for customer service are 2.260. Under the Bluvia trademark, RFI ensures the ferry link with Sicily and Sardinia.
