We operate locally with more than 26,000 people employed by the central divisions and, for the most part, by the local divisions of the Company responsible for carrying out production activities involving:

  • network maintenance/management processes for safe train movement and station quality (the 15 Local Infrastructures Operational Departments coordinated by the Central Production Department),
  • the planning and regulation of railway operations (the 11 Local Area Operation Divisions coordinated by the Central Operation Department)
  • planning, development and marketing (the 6 Local Commercial Divisions, coordinated by the Central Commercial Department),
  • supervision of the planning and implementation of investments for developing infrastructure and its technological equipment (the 4 Local Investment Divisions coordinated by the Central Investment Department)
  • the management, enhancement and sustainable renovation of stations (the 5 Passenger Building Local Units, coordinated by the Central Passenger Buildings Department)
  • the production of equipment and vehicles for the infrastructure (the 5 Workshops).

In addition to these, there are 10 Local Health Units and 7 Health Centres coordinated by the Health Department, which provide legal and occupational health services to Company personnel, external companies and the public. The areas of responsibility of RFI's local divisions vary according to the activities carried out. The most widespread and best staffed are the Local Production Offices, which are responsible for operations more directly related to railway operations.

Production activities related to the definition and monitoring of technical standards for infrastructure and technological systems and equipment, as well as operating regulations, are carried out centrally by the Technical Department. Specialist departments ensure, including through divisions distributed nationwide, the control of corporate processes relating to security; safety and quality management systems; purchasing; strategies, planning and sustainability; personnel management; station concept; legal and corporate; internal audit; asset management, R&D and innovation studies, and media relations.
