New rules for requesting the assistance service for people with disabilities and reduced mobility (PRM) during the emergency phase for the deployment of COVID-19

As a result of the continuation of the new health crisis due to the spread of Covid-19, the number of requests for PRM assistance services has dropped dramatically.

In this situation, RFI has decided to keep the service active throughout the PRM Assistance Network, but, for organisational reasons, it has been necessary to increase the advance notice time. From 1 December 2020, 24 hours’ notice is required for all stations in the PRM Assistance Network, both for requests made by calling the Railway Companies with which the passenger wishes to travel and for those made by contacting the RFI Call Centre or going in person to a Sala Blu Office.

The rules for the OPERATION OF THE PRM SERVICE remain in force:

  • The Sala Blu Offices will keep their doors closed and PRM service users will use the special bell to access the rooms, with regulated entry to avoid crowds of people and ensure a minimum distance of at least one metre between individuals
  • The identification of the meeting points shall take into account the need to guarantee the necessary interpersonal distance; at the time of booking, therefore, the Sala Blu Offices, the waiting rooms of the Railway Companies (unless otherwise indicated by them) and, in general, closed rooms shall be excluded from the meeting points for the start of the assistance
  • The most appropriate procedures shall be adopted to ensure the greatest possible distance between the PRM passenger and the person them. In particular, if it is not otherwise possible to maintain a safe distance, a wheelchair, and a forklift if necessary, will be provided for all types of assistance
  • If a blind person or person with another disability or reduced mobility refuses the method illustrated above, the service will be carried out by the “PRM placing their hand on the assistant's shoulder”, after the passenger has sanitised his/her hand in the presence of the assistant. If the passenger does not have any sanitising gel, the service must be carried out using a wheelchair and, if necessary, a forklift.

IMPORTANT!
Passengers wishing to use the PRM assistance service must wear a mask. In the event of refusal to use a wheelchair, sanitising gel will also be required.
NOTE
It is recommended that the COVID-19 government measures be strictly adhered to when travelling.
