From Lecco to Tirano, the future for the Milano Cortina 2026 stations

In the Valtellina region, the Lecco, Colico, Morbegno, Sondrio and Tirano stations will be redesigned to better welcome citizens and visitors, through architectural redevelopments, new pedestrian paths, more functional urban spaces and greater intermodality.

Works at the stations

The Lecco station is one of the ten stations involved in the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Following a EUR 10 million investment, the project will improve accessibility, sustainability, intermodality and connections in the areas where the competitions will be held. 

Main interventions:

  • Underpass restyling and historic canopies restoration 
  • Station building redevelopment and new passenger spaces 
  • Station forecourt reorganisation, with dedicated pedestrian areas and a new covered bicycle station 
  • Improved accessibility: new lifts on platforms 2 and 3 and replacement of any existing ones. Raised platforms to facilitate getting on/off the trains. Canopy extension and completion of tactile paths to promote orientation for people with visual impairments

 

 

The Colico station is one of the ten stations involved in the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Following a EUR 11.3 million investment, the project will improve accessibility, sustainability, intermodality and connections in the areas where the competitions will be held. 

Main interventions:

  • Improved station accessibility: new lifts on the platforms and station forecourt. Repaving and new tactile paths
  • Underpass restyling
  • Station building restyled with new spaces for greater passenger comfort
  • Station forecourt reorganized to promote pedestrian and intermodal transport

 

 

The Morbegno station is one of the ten stations involved in the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Following a EUR 2.5 million investment, the project will improve accessibility, sustainability, intermodality and connections in the areas where the competitions will be held. 

Main interventions:

  • Improved station accessibility: platform 1 will be raised to facilitate getting on/off the trains, and new tactile paths will be added
  • Underpass and platform 1 canopy restyling
  • Station building restyled with new spaces for greater passenger comfort
  • Station forecourt reorganized to promote pedestrian and intermodal transport

 

 

The Sondrio station is one of the ten stations involved in the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Following a EUR 4.8 million investment, the project will improve accessibility, sustainability, intermodality and connections in the areas where the competitions will be held. 

Main interventions:

  • Seismic upgrading and station building restyled with new spaces for greater passenger comfort 
  • Station forecourt reorganized to promote pedestrian and intermodal transport 
  • Underpass restyling 
  • New Railway Police Station  

 

 

The Tirano station is one of the ten stations involved in the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Following a EUR 9.3 million investment, the project will improve accessibility, sustainability, intermodality and connections in the areas where the competitions will be held. 

Main interventions:

  • Underpass redevelopment and station building restyling, with more modern and comfortable spaces
  • Station forecourt and parking lots reorganized. More pedestrian areas, and better connections with buses and other means of transport 
  • Improved station accessibility: new lift. Reconstructed canopies. Renovated stairs. Raised platforms. Completion of tactile paths to promote orientation for people with visual impairments
