A concrete contribution to the decarbonisation challenge, through the digitisation of logistics processes. This is the goal of the Easy Rail Freight platform. Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) and the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Freight Corridor (ScanMed RFC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the implementation and promotion of EasyRailFreight (ERF), the new digital platform developed by RFI to support intermodal rail transport by improving efficiency and integration of logistics services (www.erf.rfi.it).
The platform encourages the promotion and development of intermodal logistics services through an information system that facilitates the matching of supply and demand, and the acquisition of supplementary services, and enables a comprehensive overview of market services. Through the use of advanced digital technologies, the platform optimizes freight services planning, promoting interoperability and an efficient rail infrastructure use along the TEN-T Corridors.
As part of this collaboration, ScanMed RFC also published its Pre-Arranged Paths (PaPs) offer directly on EasyRailFreight, increasing the visibility and usability of the rail capacity available on the ScanMed corridor. This way, operators were able to consult the train paths still available in an easier and more immediate way, thus reducing access times and increasing the competitiveness of rail transport compared to road transport.
In addition, RFI and ScanMed RFC will jointly promote international rail intermodality, by participating in trade fairs, conferences and industry events to present the advantages of EasyRailFreight and support the development of rail freight transport along the Corridor.
RFI’s Memorandum was signed by the two Departments directly involved: Negotiations and International Programmes, which, through the European Freight Corridors structure, promoted the project within the Corridor, and Strategies, Sustainability and Infrastructure Development Planning, which is the EasyRailFreight process owner, through the Strategic Marketing structure.
This partnership confirms RFI and ScanMed RFC’s joint commitment to enhance cross-border interoperability, improve logistic efficiency and contribute to Europe's climate objectives, fostering an increasingly competitive, connected and sustainable freight transport system.
