Our initiatives have a positive impact on the local area, regenerating social spaces and promoting new dimensions for shared value

Our commitment to social sustainability goes beyond our company: we promote initiatives that allow local communities to regain unused spaces to support culture and sport, support non-profit initiatives and create new opportunities and centres for bringing people together.

Greenways

This initiative promotes the redevelopment of disused buildings and railway lines by selling them to interested public authorities and third parties.

The total length of disused lines owned by the FS Group is 1,450 kilometres. With the exception of 185 kilometres converted into tourist railways (Law no. 128/2017), the total number of disused lines that can be converted into “greenways” is 1,265 kilometres, 690 kilometres of which are owned by RFI S.p.A. and 575 kilometres owned by FS S.p.A. A valuable asset made available to authorities and citizens.

We have sold 75 kilometres of lines and 30 buildings for green redevelopment

Travel atlas along the disused railways (2017-2019)

A collection of disused railway lines from the FS Group, to be converted into cycling and pedestrian paths for the benefit of sustainable mobility and the enhancement of the country's natural, historical, and cultural heritage. The publication, updated in its content and divided by geographical areas, offers a survey of characteristic railway routes no longer used for railway operations (approximately 1,500 km). The aim of the Atlas is to support the development of the country's sustainable mobility network through the synergy between projects for the reuse of unused tracks and a network of high tourist and naturalistic interest consisting of existing trails, greenways, and cycle paths.
